Cuban Revolution
The Cuban Revolution brought Fidel Castro and other revolutionaries to power in 1959, overthrowing the Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista.
After taking power, Castro:
- moved toward communism
- nationalized foreign-owned industries
- accepted Soviet aid
- aligned Cuba more closely with the Soviet Union
Significance
The Cuban Revolution made Cuba a major Cold War hotspot in the Western Hemisphere.
Consequences
It set the stage for the Bay Of Pigs invasion and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
