Cultural Revolution
Cultural Revolution
The Cultural Revolution began in 1966 as Mao’s attempt to renew China’s revolutionary spirit.
In practice, it:
- silenced critics of Mao
- strengthened Mao’s power
- disrupted education, government, and daily life
Mao used the Red Guards to attack officials, teachers, and others seen as insufficiently revolutionary.
