Gamal Abdel Nasser was president of Egypt and one of the most influential leaders in the Arab world.
He:
- served between 1954 and 1970
- helped negotiate compromises at the Bandung Conference
- supported Pan-Arabism(泛阿拉伯主义)
- introduced land reform
- nationalized industries
- nationalized the Suez Cana
- His seizure of the canal triggered the Suez Crisis.
Note
Nasser was a key figure in the Non-Aligned Movement and postcolonial politics.
He tried to keep Egypt independent from domination by either Cold War superpower.
