Kwame Nkrumah
Kwame Nkrumah was a leading African nationalist and the first prime minister/president of Ghana after independence.
He:
- led Ghana to independence from Britain in 1957
- promoted African unity across colonial borders
- became a respected leader in the postwar decolonization era
- helped found the Organization Of African Unity
- Nkrumah also pushed state-led development, but critics accused him of corruption and authoritarianism.
- In 1964, Ghana became a One-Party State under Nkrumah.
Important
Nkrumah linked anti-colonialism with the goals of the Non-Aligned Movement.
He is often associated with Pan-Africanism(泛非主义).
