Alexander Dubcek

Alexander Dubcek was the Communist Party leader in Czechoslovakia during the Prague Spring.

He responded to public demands by supporting greater freedom and political reform.

Note

Dubcek tried to reform communism from within rather than abolish it completely.

His reforms alarmed the Soviet Union and led to intervention justified by the Brezhnev Doctrine.
