The Bay of Pigs invasion was a failed U.S.-backed attempt in 1961 to overthrow Fidel Castro in Cuba.
A group of Cuban exiles invaded Cuba with support approved by John F. Kennedy, but the plan failed badly.
Warning
The failure strengthened the alliance between Cuba and the Soviet Union.
It helped set the stage for the Cuban Missile Crisis.
