Commune

Commune

A commune is a large agricultural community in which land is controlled collectively rather than by private owners.

In China during the Great Leap Forward, peasants were grouped into communes where the state controlled the land.

Note

commune = 人民公社 / 集体公社,强调集体劳动与国家控制

Communes were meant to increase production, but they became associated with coercion, famine, and policy failure.
