Muhammad Reza Pahlavi
Muhammad Reza Pahlavi
Muhammad Reza Pahlavi was the shah of Iran during the mid-20th century.
He came to power after Britain and the Soviet Union forced his father to abdicate during World War II.
Later, after the overthrow of Mohammad Mosaddegh, he ruled Iran in an increasingly authoritarian way.
He is also associated with the White Revolution.
Note
Pahlavi tried to modernize Iran, but his rule depended heavily on repression and Western backing.
