The Cuban Missile Crisis was the 1962 confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union over Soviet missiles in Cuba.
It brought the world close to nuclear war.
Outcome:
- the Soviet Union removed missiles from Cuba
- the United States quietly removed missiles from Turkey
- both sides sought better communication afterward
Danger
This was one of the most dangerous moments of the Cold War.
It led directly to the creation of the Hot Line.
